Hello! I am Susan, the food maker behind
“SUZIES BREAD BASKET”

I grew up in Richmond British Columbia, Canada, and have loved the art of baking and cooking, since I was a very young girl.
My story of baking canning and cooking begins with my own grandmother, I was 5 when she showed me the greatest magic show I had ever seen, I became instantly hook.
My grandmother was the head house keeper for a wealthy family in Winnipeg, the Ashton’s
I spent a summer with her when I was 5, she had to take me to work with her.
The first day she took me would shape the rest of my life. I remember every detail of that day right down to what she was wearing.
My grandma pulled a chair up to the kitchen counter and set me up on it so I could see everything
She began taking items from the fridge and cupboards, then began to show me the most incredible translations I had ever seen
I watched as she turned everything into these delicious edibles, oh my what a show, and I WAS HOOKED!
From then on I was always trying to get into the kitchen with our own Mom, and I was the only one out of five children, she let take over her kitchen, (she was a great cook, too!) and use her cookware, because she knew I took it seriously.
My first real job was working for “Hunky Bills” Ukrainian food stand, at the P.N.E., when I was 14, and I worked on and off for the Konyks, who were also our parents family friends, for many, many years.
I moved to Toronto for a while, and I went to college and worked Restaurant jobs, met a wonderful man, got Married, and promptly had 3 beautiful children, Casmir, Alicia, and Rudi, and now, as of 2023, I have 7 amazing grandchildren, whom I adore with all my heart and soul.
Having kids I worked in Restaurants, and when I became a single mother, I went back to school, CULINARY ARTS SCHOOL, and from there I began getting more choice jobs, in better Restaurants, and my skills improved from each new experience.
All though the years I have baked and cooked for my family and friends, and we always talked about me opening a Restaurant.
Even as a child, when I played with my two sisters, I always chose to play “restaurant”. We have some pretty hilarious, and fond memories of those play days!
My son, Casmir, became a chef and a brew master. It’s in his blood, he loves cooking, too. So do my girls, but Cas is a brilliant chef and brew master, compared to most, so it’s hard to compete with him, on much of anything, to be honest.
I made a special Torte layer cake for my beautiful Father, for his birthday, all my adult life. It wasn’t his birthday without my Torte Cake. My family waits for it every year. I loved making it for him.
I am older now, closer to retirement, and I want to build this home business, because it’s my dream to create foods, and run my own show.
I have arthritis, and I just need to get out of the grind, and back to my heart, and passion, AND MY GARDEN AND GRANDCHILDREN.
I have been in the work force, since I was 14, and now I want to work for myself, and fulfill this dream, no matter how I manifest it. This is a real “cottage industry” business, as I basically live in a cottage with my husband Graeme, in Sayward British Columbia, Canada.
I love feeding people. It’s in my soul.
